FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit Iceland?

Depends on goals. May-September — for nature hikes, waterfalls and F-roads access. September-March — for northern lights and ice caves. June-July — polar day, great for long shoots. February-March — optimal winter (daylight is back, snow still around).

How much does a NOMAP Iceland tour cost?

Depends on format and season: 5-8 days, from €1,400 to €2,800 per person. Price includes transfer, lodging, route, tour leader services. Flights and meals are separate. Exact prices for current dates — Telegram @machekin_a.

What visa do I need?

Schengen visa (category C). Iceland is in Schengen. Apply at any Schengen embassy or VFS visa center. Usually approved in 10-15 days. We provide tour confirmation and lodging bookings for your application.

Is the tour suitable for beginners with no preparation?

Yes. Our tours are designed for people in normal physical shape with no special experience. Hikes are easy-to-moderate, up to 3-4 hours. No ice climbing or alpinism without separate qualification. Transport is a group minivan with a guide-driver.

What's included in the price?

Transfer from Keflavík airport, accommodation (3* guesthouses, sometimes farm hotels), all transport along the route, tour leader services, entry tickets to main sites (Blue Lagoon — optional). Not included: flights, meals, personal expenses.

How many people in the group?

Standard format is 6-8 people. It keeps the route flexible against weather and never feels mass-tourist. Everyone in one minivan, eats at the same places. Sometimes we form a 4-person mini-group by special request.

What should I pack?

Key items — waterproof shell (Gore-Tex or similar), warm mid-layer (fleece/down), hiking boots, hat, gloves, swimsuit. Detailed packing list sent a month before the tour. See also our guide: what to pack for Iceland.

Will I see the northern lights on tour?

Tours from September to March include aurora hunting on free evenings — we drive to a dark spot when KP-index and weather align. Nature gives no guarantee, but over 5-6 nights in the right season, chance is ~70-80%. More: aurora guide.
